About me

Omid Kalantar
PROFESSOR/RESEARCHER/AUTHOR
Welcome to my website! My name is Omid, and I am a dedicated and passionate university professor (assistant) of applied linguistics and Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).
I was born in 1990 and have been a basketball enthusiast for as long as I can remember. In fact, I pursued a professional basketball career and played at a high level. After I retired, I started officiating basketball tournaments. Alongside my love for basketball, I have always had a passion for teaching. I earned both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in teaching English as a foreign language while also gaining valuable work experience by teaching and researching at the same time.
My Master’s thesis focused on analyzing real-life English language (ESP) needs of basketball professionals, and I have since developed a keen interest in exploring the intersection between my two passions. As a teacher, I have taught advanced-level English and exam preparation courses, and as a professor, I teach applied linguistics, teaching methods, and research in TEFL.
Since 2022, I have been serving as an assistant professor of Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching (ELT) at Universidad Nacional de Educación (UNAE) in Ecuador. There, I have had the opportunity to teach, mentor, and supervise students in the ELT program. As a researcher, I investigate various topics in ELT, applied linguistics, and psycholinguistics, and as a mentor, I support and encourage Ecuadorian pre-service and in-service teachers to conduct research in their classrooms.
In addition to teaching at universities, I have taught at various language schools, which has given me the opportunity to gain experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds. I was also privileged to serve as a Cambridge examiner in 2020. I am excited to share my knowledge and experience with you. Thank you for visiting my website!
