Items are essential components to strengthening your character in Sanctuary in Diablo 4. Their power can be affected by seasonal systems or endgame activities, making their optimization an ongoing process instead of an instant upgrade.
Aspects are special components found on Legendary or Unique items that can be extracted, then imprinted onto other Legendary or Rare items (replacing the original Aspect). Aspects can also be slightly enhanced through Masterworking.
Item types
Item types in Diablo 4 represent all of the equipment available for equipping. Each gear slot randomly draws from a pool of stats; armor items (Helmet, Chest and Boots) usually provide defensive stats while weapons and accessories (Ring and Amulet) offer damage and utility stats. Some equipment has sockets where you can add gems; additionally these slots may be further customized through Occultist#Enchanting Tempering or Masterworking processes.
Diablo 4’s new itemization system replaces Uber Uniques with Sacred and Ancestral items that drop in higher Torment Tiers, and can be upgraded into Mythic Uniques by taking them into the Horadric Cube using Pandemonium Fragments. They offer powerful effects that can drastically enhance your build.
Affixes
Affixes are game-altering attributes that add damage, survivability and customization capabilities to legendary items in Diablo 4. Fists of Fate increase hit damage while Godslayer Crown amps up crowd control effects for maximum crowd control effect.
Each gear piece can feature up to two affixes that customize its playstyle for each class. Rerolls with the Blacksmith may be possible at an additional cost; however this reroll may or may not bring with it different affixes.
Affixes can be collected through completing dungeons or extracted via Masterworking, and Aspects purchased for any legendary item you own; legendary and unique items with item power of at least 750 can even be upgraded with up to 12 Aspects via this technique.
Sockets
Many items can be upgraded by socketing them with various gems and skulls that provide various bonuses, from stat increases to additional abilities or affixes. Sockets can only be added through Jewelers located throughout each town.
The number of sockets an item naturally generates is dependent upon its source monster, item type and difficulty level; however there are cube recipes and socket quests which can add extra sockets to some items.
To gain additional sockets, the best way is to kill Treasure Goblins or wait for World Bosses to appear at set times in zones. This gives you the best chance at gathering the necessary Scattered Prisms that can create additional sockets.
Enchantments
Sorcerers stand apart from other classes by having access to multiple enchantments that provide passive procs that boost damage, increase skill speed and decrease cooldown times – these enchantments give access to passive effects that boost damage or speed, or decrease cooldown times as needed.
Enchantments not only increase the power of your items, but they also make it harder for other players to acquire them – this feature helps balance out loot systems so it’s fairer for all.
